Complete enclosure of an automatic sheet-metal coil machine including the feeders: 16 door variants, a new inspection panel. Remotely, in 4 weeks.

Brief

A Swiss machine builder needed a complete enclosure, including the feeders, for a new automatic series-production machine that processes sheet-metal coils. The doors were to be a whole family of variants derived from one base model: smaller, larger, wider and corner doors, sliding doors and doors with operator panels. It also wanted the inspection panel and keyboard drawer redesigned to be easier to use and to transport.

Solution

Working in the customer's SolidWorks 2024 templates, numbering and rules, we designed the enclosure of the whole machine, including the feeders, in sheet metal and weldments. We derived the doors as variants: sliding doors, doors with 21.5″ and 15.6″ operator panels, keyboard and optional inspection panel, safety locks and magnets. The inspection panel can be replaced with a blind cover and moved aside for transport; the keyboard drawer got push-to-open gas springs and the monitor a tilt mechanism. We worked remotely via Microsoft Teams, in iterations with short calls.

Result

  • Complete machine enclosure including the feeders, with 16 door variants from one base model.
  • A new inspection panel and keyboard drawer with monitor tilt.
  • Delivered in about 4 weeks, remotely from the Czech Republic, under NDA.

Models and drawings are covered by an NDA, so no images are shown.
